CRAIG ALBERTY
HOME   |   BIO   |   COMPOSITION   |   AUDIO PRODUCTION   |   PERFORMANCE

For nearly two decades Craig Alberty has operated an audio production studio specializing in projects for educational music publishers.  He has developed over 20 CDs for Ed Sueta Music and Macie Publishing; produced the
Smart Music package for the Premier Performance band method; created the accompaniment recording for his jazz method Jammin’, published by C.L. Barnhouse; and worked on several other projects including the Arkansas all-state jazz band audition recordings as well as developing demo recordings of several of his jazz and concert works published through JPM Music.  He also produces all demo recordings for Joyous Noise Music.

Most of Alberty’s production work utilizes MIDI sequencing, integration of live recording with sequences, and voice-overs.

The following samples are from his extensive work for Ed Sueta Music and Macie Publishing.  These are from the Premier Performance band method and the Be A Recorder Star recorder method.  The melodies were provided by the publisher; the arrangements (harmonization, orchestration) were written and then recorded using digital keyboards and sequencing software.  The voice-overs were recorded and mixed with the arrangement recording and then the examples were mastered.  An objective of the projects has been to create as much musical diversity and interest as possible while keeping the arrangements easy for children to comprehend and perform with.

Be A Recorder Star
These arrangements are generally light and transparent so the kids can keep the recorder sound delicate and under control.  A strong, uncluttered pulse helps youngsters play accurate rhythms.

This is for older, more experienced students so the arrangements have more rhythmic complexity and harmonic interest.  It is also for louder band instruments allowing for denser textures and heavier sounds.

The sample below is a concert piece published by JPM Music.  It was recorded by a band with significant instrumentation shortages and imbalances.  Many of the instruments and sections were added or reinforced after the recording was made using keyboard and wind-controlled synthesizer.

Here are demos from Joyous Noise Music, publisher of hymns in contemporary styles.  Craig wrote the arrangements, sequenced the rhythm tracks, performed all horn parts on acoustic instruments or wind-controlled synthesizer, and recorded the vocalists.  A CD with this material is available here.
